If you’ve read any of our top restaurants posts in the past, you’ll know we typically recommend the same few tips for picking a great restaurant. However, in Southeast Asia, the dining scene is a bit different. For example, we would normally recommend avoiding restaurants in Europe where the menu is exclusively in English or contains pictures of all of the food. However, in Southeast Asian countries like Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam, this is standard – don’t let it spook you into thinking you’ve stumbled on a tourist trap. In fact, in our three months in Vietnam, we only encountered one restaurant with a Vietnamese-only menu! On the flip side, tips like number three become even more important – many Southeast Asian restaurants specialize in only one or two menu items – these restaurants are your best shot at eating those dishes at their finest.
Our Da Nang Food Guide Tips for Finding Great Eats
With that in mind, below are our top tips for finding the best restaurants in Da Nang to ensure you enjoy your meal:
- DON’T take Google Maps reviews as undisputed facts. We know, it’s an easy place to start and we gravitate toward those 4 star and up locations as well. But the truth is, in tourist destinations, these reviews are overwhelmingly contributed by, well, tourists, who may have different expectations for food or service than are standard in that country. If you see a place that looks good but the reviews aren’t top notch, dig a little deeper to see if they’re due to differing expectations (for example, being served meat and fish with bones in is common here).
- DON’T choose a place because a waiter outside called you over and tried to persuade you to eat there.
- DO gravitate to restaurants with a small, specific menu – particularly relevant in Vietnam, where many restaurants will include the name of their signature dish in the name of the restaurant itself.
- DO make advance reservations at popular places to eat in Da Nang like City High, Bếp Cuốn, and Missteak.
- BONUS: DON’T feel like you need to pick a fancy or expensive restaurant to eat well in Da Nang. After three months living here, I can confidently say that some of our best meals were the cheapest ones. In fact, we were often disappointed by our meals at nicer places, and having to pay three to four times the price for the food was salt in the wound – pun intended.

The Best Restaurants in Da Nang, Vietnam
Before we get into our list of the best restaurants in Da Nang, Vietnam, we’ve got one last tip on dining in the city. Vietnam is a communal-style dining culture. Dishes tend to run on the smaller side, and it’s super common to order several plates to share with the table. Instead of worrying one dish won’t be enough to fill you up, lean into it! It’s the perfect way to sample all the local cuisine.
Dinner in Da Nang - Vietnamese Food
Vietnamese cuisine is so much more than pho and banh mi. From crispy bánh xèo (Vietnamese pancakes) to savory nem lui (pork lemongrass skewers) and local specialty mì quảng (a peanut-y noodle soup), you can treat your tastebuds to a different dish every day of the week at one of these incredible Vietnamese restaurants in Da Nang.
Let’s start with our favorite spot for your first meal in Da Nang, Thìa Gỗ Restaurant. This cozy, two-level restaurant is a little more upscale than your standard streetside fare, and they hit all the key highlights of Vietnamese cuisine in their moderately-sized menu. In short, it’s the perfect introduction to Vietnamese cuisine. Their bún bò Huế, a beef noodle soup bursting with savory and spicy flavor, was our favorite in the city. Come early as Thìa Gỗ is pretty popular and there is often a bit of a wait.
Pro tip: Head to the front counter when you arrive to grab a number. This process isn’t immediately obvious, and we saw plenty of groups waste time waiting around before they even actually got in line!
Next up is a classic “hole-in-the-wall” streetside restaurant, Mì quảng Mỹ Sơn. As you can guess from the name, they serve Da Nang’s signature dish, mì quảng. Mì quảng Mỹ Sơn earns its place as one of the best restaurants in Da Nang for mì quảng that’s cooked perfectly, astonishingly quickly, and at an excellent price. Here, you can choose either beef or chicken mì quảng, simple or “special” – aka with extra fixin’s – for as little as 35K VND (~$1.50). We liked the chicken better – it was reminiscent of a Vietnamese-style chicken noodle soup broth, but topped with peanuts and plenty of fresh herbs.
Time to head riverside for a regional specialty out of Ha Noi, chả cá lã vọng. This dish is cooked tableside, and consists of turmeric-marinaded catfish filet fried with a heaping mound of fresh dill – truly, a terrifying amount at first. But no fear, it cooks way down to a smaller amount. You then eat the fish and dill over rice noodles with peanuts and a citrus chili oil or pungent shrimp paste – though we only recommend this for the truly adventurous eaters. A two-person serving will run you about 160K VND (~$6.25), but you may want to order twice this amount if you’re hungry.
Looking for more fish? Try Bún Cá Cay Hải Phòng, which serves fish noodle soup in a casual streetside restaurant. I tried their classic bún cá thu, or noodle soup with mackerel, though they also offer more adventurous eats like cowfish and fish stomach. The broth is quite fishy, but the serving of mackerel was really generous and perfectly cooked. A bowl of bún cá thu will run you just 50K VND (~$2) and keep you nice and full until your next meal.
Update Note: Unfortunately, this Da Nang restaurant is now permanently closed. If you’re set on trying bún cá thu, try Bún chả cá 109 in the Hai Chau district.
One of our standbys while in Da Nang, Miss Nhi offers a wide menu of classic dishes in a comfortable aesthetic, complete with rows of colorful hanging lanterns decorating the outdoor seating area. It’s a third-generation family-run business, and you can feel the love in their dishes. We highly recommend their nem lui, which are pork sausages skewered on lemongrass stalks, served with rice paper and a variety of fresh veggies and herbs to build your own spring rolls. Ready for some more local charm? Check out Mộc Pho, a small restaurant down an alley off the main drag run by a woman and her grandmother. Service can be a bit slow, as it’s just the two of them operating the restaurant, but the dishes were exploding with flavor and absolutely worth the wait. The prices were excellent as well, just 40K VND (~$1.75) for pho and 55K VND (~$2) for mixed noodles with beef. It was a great little find that we’re happy to be able to share to further contribute to their homey business.
Another restaurant you’ll feel good about eating at, Vietnom is a big supporter of Da Nang’s deaf community and employs many of them at their restaurant. The menu even includes some images of Vietnamese sign language to help you order. But this isn’t just a feel-good establishment – their food is excellent, and you’ll see some unique fusion items here you won’t find on menus anywhere else in the city. It’s hands-down one of the best restaurants in Da Nang for Vietnamese food, and we recommend the bánh cuốn “lasagna” or one of their fresh and tasty poke bowls to prove it.
One of the most popular spots for dinner in Da Nang, Bếp Cuốn is huge – and busy – but does not disappoint. It’s the perfect place to try a variety of local favorites with one of their several sampler platters. It’s a bit on the pricier side for Da Nang due to its popularity, but still plenty affordable. Don’t miss a photo op in front of their wall of colorful lanterns on your way out.
This is one of the few places to eat in Da Nang where we recommend making reservations in advance. Stop by and make a reservation in person, or message Bếp Cuốn on Facebook.
Finally, no trip to Vietnam is complete without a banh mi! While there are tons of street vendors selling cheap and delicious banh mis – which we highly recommend – sometimes you just want to sit down in a restaurant while you scarf down your tasty sandwich. Ùmm Banh Mi & Cafe is perfect for this – centrally located, reasonably priced, and very, very tasty. If there’s one good thing that came out of the French colonization of Vietnam, it is their bread. Don’t miss out on enjoying it while you’re here!
Dinner in Da Nang - International Cuisine
While Vietnamese food is delicious – truly, we miss it so much – sometimes you need a little break to mix things up a bit. Lucky for you, Da Nang’s food scene is incredibly diverse, and can satisfy nearly any craving you have. While we could overwhelm you with 20 more international restaurants here, we’ve narrowed it down to our favorite 9 places to eat in Da Nang for international cuisine.
In case you’re new here, let me catch you up – I am obsessed with Mexican food, and I consider it my personal duty to find you the best Mexican restaurant in every city we visit. In Da Nang, it’s Casa Loco. Super vibey with walls covered in graphic art, a solid margarita, and huge tacos that will keep you full for hours. It is Vietnam, so Casa Loco isn’t perfect – the tortilla chips in particular leave a lot to be desired – but it will definitely scratch the itch when the craving strikes. I recommend the birria taco and the Tex Mex taco.
While we can’t speak to the vibe here as we only ordered takeout, we can say that the food was exceptional. The servings were huge, and the curries were impeccable. They also served a few regional dishes we hadn’t seen before like dosa, a thin and savory Indian crepe. If you’re in the mood for Indian, Indus is one of the best restaurants in Da Nang to visit.
Pro tip: Make sure to download Grab, Southeast Asia’s #1 rideshare and delivery app, before your trip to Vietnam! That way, you too can order some tasty delivery on the nights you’re feeling too tired to go out.
Colby’s a huge barbecue fan, so he jumped at the opportunity to try some from this restaurant with a neon “Texas BBQ” sign over the door. While my salad was underwhelming, Colby claimed his meat was the best barbecue he’s had outside of Texas – big praise from him if you hear how much he shades Kansas City (my personal fave). You can also enjoy some imported and local craft beers with your barbeque, the perfect complement to all that brisket.
While you probably won’t need one, you can reserve a table at Country BBQ in advance if you don’t want to risk missing out on some tasty, tasty barbecue while in Da Nang.
Looking for something a bit more elevated to satisfy your beef craving? Try Missteak, an upscale steakhouse located on top of Vietnom Local Eatery that delivers an exceptional meal. Missteak may have been the best restaurant in Da Nang I visited, offering a small, curated menu of steaks and sides – not for the vegetarians, I’m afraid – that are perfectly cooked to order. I got an absolutely delicious 300g ribeye for 785K VND (~$30), and we shared a sampling of their sides like tallow fries, whipped feta and tomato, and charred broccoli and cauliflower. It’s perfect for date night, and don’t miss their delectable dessert menu to finish the evening off.
As one of the top places to eat dinner in Da Nang, we recommend making a reservation at Missteak at least a few days in advance, especially if you’re a large party.
We’ve got one more restaurant for our meat-lovers out there – GAINN KBBQ. While we haven’t yet traveled to Korea, we lived in LA for several years, where we were first exposed to the glory of Korean BBQ in LA’s Koreatown – the biggest Koreatown in the US. GAINN’s offerings were right up there with some of the best Korean BBQ we’ve ever had. The skirt steak was so tender and juicy, and of a higher quality cut than we usually get at KBBQ. A 400g mixed steak set cost us 1.15M VDN (~$45) and was more than enough to eat after all the free sides came out. We left full and very happy – a meal well worth a spot on our list of the best restaurants in Da Nang.

Bringing things back to a more casual level, the next stop on your food tour of Da Nang is The Pasta House, a food truck located on My An beach, perfect for a snack after hours in the sun. This one is great because it offers seating both on and off the sand, and is decorated with bistro lightly to create a lovely ambiance. Their burger was one of our favorites in the city, and they also served our favorite local craft beer, 5 Elements. Of course, they also offer pasta and pizza, so there’s a little something for everyone here.
Speaking of burgers, you can’t miss Bikini Bottom Express if you’re craving a burger, milkshake, or really any other American comfort food. This place is ideal for morning-after grub after hitting up some of Da Nang’s best nightlife, as they also have an epic brunch menu. It’s not exactly a healthy menu, but everything they serve is absolutely drool-worthy if you’ve got calories in the budget for it. As an added bonus, they’re dog-friendly both inside and outside, so we could bring Cali along to snag a fry or two.
Finally, we have the hidden gem of all hidden gems – the fine dining restaurant City High. One of only a few fine dining restaurants in Da Nang, it’s incredible, but tough to find. To get to City High, you need to walk through not one but two, residential and somewhat sketchy alleyways. We doubled back at least twice to make sure we were going the right way. But once you arrive, you’ll be completely transported to a fine dining restaurant that would stack up against any of its European counterparts. The service and food were both exceptional, with the wagyu steak being a true highlight. City High has an a la carte menu as well as a seven-course tasting menu for 1.8M VND (~$70), along with wine pairings for an additional cost.
As one of the only fine dining restaurants in Da Nang, we recommend in our Da Nang food guide to make reservations at City High at least 1 week in advance.
Places to Eat in Da Nang for Dessert
Vietnamese food tends toward the sweet side, so we were shocked to find that there isn’t much of a dessert culture here. But we did stumble upon two of the best restaurants in Da Nang for those of you with a sweet tooth – Freezedom and Jeremy’s Kitchen.
This ice cream shop in An Thuong is SO good. Rich and creamy, it’s a gourmet-style ice cream that will make your grocery-store ice cream seem severely lacking. In addition to a small seating area, you can get your ice cream to-go or delivered by Grab if a late-night craving strikes you. I highly recommend their honeycomb flavor, but you can also find a mix of classic and seasonal flavors on offer.
Last but not least, we have Jeremy’s Kitchen, a cafe and bakery with the most incredible cakes. We visited with a group of friends and sampled four varieties, each more delicious than the last. The slices are huge and packed with flavor, from Devil’s Food to Banana Peanut Butter and even Blueberry Lemonade! Should I Tip at Restaurants in Da Nang?
Tipping is not common in Da Nang, and it’s best to respect local practices to avoid inflating prices or impacting the labor market. However, if your service is spectacular or you’re at a nicer restaurant, feel free to leave a 5-10% cash tip for your server.
Do Da Nang Restaurants Accept Credit Cards?
While many places to eat in Da Nang will accept credit card, there are still a lot of vendors that only accept cash, or accept card with an added fee (usually 3%). We recommend in this Da Nang food guide to keep at least 1 million VND (~$38) on hand at all times. You heard that right – 1 million VND. VND trades at approximately 25,000 VND to $1, so don’t be surprised when you’re withdrawing massive sums from the ATM. And don’t forget our pro tip on withdrawing from ATMs in foreign countries!
Pro tip: When offered an exchange rate by an ATM, you can – and should – always decline the rate displayed. This rate often includes a heavy markup on top of the market exchange rate. Declining the rate will not stop your transaction, but rather allow your personal bank to set the rate instead.
Do I Need to Speak Vietnamese to Order Dinner in Da Nang?
Definitely not. We had no issues interacting with people in the service industry in English during our 3 months in Da Nang, though knowing a few key words will definitely win you some brownie points with the locals. Practice these ones before your trip:
